Time Out for Meditation
When the world is racing and you're only response to "How are you?" is "I'm crazy busy", then it's time to slow it all down. You might think how can I stop when I need to keep going?
Meditation is becoming increasingly more accepted as a direct path to relieving stress and calming the mind's chatter, often called the "monkey mind". Between Oprah's online meditation series and urban meditation events and studios popping up, meditation is now a mainstream trend and practice for yogis, kids, athletes and professionals.
Technology is meant to make our lives easier, but now that we have gadgets to do nearly everything, we're left with more time to mess with more technology - emails, texts, games, apps, websites, Google searches, GPS. We're multi-tasking more and at a faster rate. All of which that doesn't equate to a calmer or healthier lifestyle. More of everything can often create more stress which causes more tension and dis-ease... in the mind and body. Combining physical fitness, with a healthy diet, and regular meditation are fundamental tools to a holistic approach to wellness.
Research indicates you can actually improve your health with meditation:
"Studies have shown that, among other benefits, meditation can help reverse heart disease, the number-one killer in the U.S. It can reduce pain and enhance the body's immune system, enabling it to better fight disease." (via Psychology Today)In as few as 10 minutes a day, you can reap feel the positive affects of meditation. So next time "you're crazy busy", we suggest taking a 10 minute time-out. You'll be better for it. After all, we all have time to spare when we make our health a priority.
